Waiting for the Milky Way To Rise

Airglow over a Joshua tree forest in Central Nevada, captured while waiting for the Milky Way to rise. When you can capture the subtle variations in green airglow in the night sky, a rush to put the Milky Way in night compositions may be a little hasty.

Joshua trees are an indicator species for the Mojave Desert ecosystem, stretching from Southern California into Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

The area with the most and largest Joshua trees is Joshua Tree National Park, but there are Joshua tree forests in Mojave National Preserve and Death Valley National Park, and their range stretches into parts of Nevada, Utah and Arizona as well.
