In general, camera bags value function over form, which means that the average camera bag looks more like high schooler’s backpack than a stylish accoutrement that carries cameras. Hawkesmill England aims to change that with their new luxury line of camera bags. These are high-end bags. The Bond Street model, seen in the image above, is listed for £549, or about $800. West Sussex, England – For the discerning photographer, Hawkesmill England has launched the most luxurious line of camera bags to be produced anywhere. Beautifully disguised as a messenger bag, the four current offerings from Hawkesmill are all handcrafted in England by artisans who are true to their craft, producing a water and dust-proof bag that cradles the photographers’ precious camera gear.
It took over two years of designing and testing to perfect this line of bags. Each of the bags offers their owner unique detailing and features that set Hawkesmill far above the crowd, providing customers with products that, over time, wear-in, not out.
The idea behind the brand came when the founders struggled to find a camera bag that was functional, durable and fashionable. Their search yielded minimal results and they couldn’t understand why one could spend a fortune on a luxury handbag in nearly every city on Earth, but if a photographer wanted something luxurious there were limited options available to them.
While there are attributes that are similar to other top-of-the-line bags, what sets Hawkesmill apart is combining all of a photographer’s needed and necessary features into one, starting with using Scottish-made canvas and Harris Tweed, English or Italian leather straps and accents, a detachable military-grade webbing shoulder strap with comfortable cushion, a removable insert with Velcro dividers that holds a 15” MacBook Pro, a rear compartment that holds a finely-crafted (and included) portfolio organizer, and much more. And, of course, with the insert being removable the bags can double as an overnight bag, carry-on bag, or messenger bag, whenever needed, making the bags multi-functional.
There are four large models currently available with others on the way: the classic all-black Bond Street; the olive Jermyn Street, sporting a traditional Harris Tweed design; the distinctive 18oz canvas Marlborough with English vegetable tanned leather; and, the black body with charcoal Harris Tweed flap Sloane Street.
The overall dimensions of each of the Hawkesmill family of bags are 15.7″ wide x 11″ high x 5″ deep (39.88cm x 27.94cm x 12.7cm), while the weight varies slightly by model, from 5lbs to 6.5lbs.
The company also makes luxurious leather camera neck straps, card holders and passport holders. With an expanded line coming later in the year.
