The top shoulder bags for photographers: Good, Better, Best

BETTER: Think Tank Photo Retrospective 7 V2.0

If you want something with a little more room for your camera gear, the Think Tank Photo Retrospective 7 V2.0 is a larger bag with a classic, rugged design that will make you look like you shoot for National Geographic. The Retrospective 7 V2.0’s exterior is made from tough yet soft, form-fitting cotton canvas that’s been treated with a water-repellant coating to protect against the elements. This Think Tank Photo bag is a step up from the Domke mainly because it’s roomier. There’s enough space inside to stash a standard mirrorless camera or DSLR along with two lenses, a flash, small accessories and a 13-inch laptop or 10-inch tablet computer. For protection, there’s a zippered opening under the bag’s main flap. If you want to grab your gear more quickly, the zippered cover can be stashed away when not in use. Other handy features include a luggage handle pass-through on back and a removable carrying handle on top. There’s also a collapsible water bottle pocket and a seam-sealed rain cover in case it really starts pouring. The bag comes in two colors, but we like the natural-hued pinestone, which gives it a timeless look.
