While Samsung’s previous NX mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras feature 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensors, the new NX mini uses a 20.5-megapixel one-inch (13.2×8.8mm) BSI CMOS unit that allows for a very small camera size—it’s the thinnest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera as of this writing. The small size makes the camera easy to carry in a pocket or bag, and the small sensor permits new, smaller lenses. Samsung introduced two NX-M lenses with the camera, a 9mm ƒ/3.5 ED wide-angle (equivalent to 24.3mm on a full-frame camera with the sensor’s 2.7x crop factor) and 9-27mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 ED OIS wide-angle zoom with built-in optical image stabilization. A 17mm ƒ/1.8 OIS is in the works. The NX mini can use regular NX-mount lenses via the optional NX-M Mount Adapter.
The chic and svelte NX mini offers a number of "now" features, including Wink Shot. Wink at the camera, and two seconds later it takes the shot, no button-pressing required. NFC Photo Beam means you tap the camera with an NFC-compatible smartphone to share images wirelessly. Samsung MobileLink automatically sends selected photos to your smartphone or tablet via NFC, no WiFi, texting or emailing required. AutoShare automatically sends each photo to a smart device via WiFi and can apply GPS tags to photos. Remote Viewfinder Pro turns your NFC-enabled smart device into a wireless remote control. The camera can even be used as a baby monitor.
The NX mini can shoot still images at 5472×3648 pixels and 1920×1080 full HD video (also 1280×720 HD, 640×480 and 320×240) at 30p with mono sound. Normal ISO range is 160-12800 (1000-25,600 expanded). Maximum continuous shooting rate at full resolution is 6 fps, and bursts (at 5 megapixels) of up to 30 fps are possible. Shutter speeds run from 30 to 1?16,000 sec. Images are saved on MicroSD/SDHC/SDXC media.
Dimensions are 4.3×2.4×0.9 inches and 5.6 ounces (body only).
