Oh this is priceless. I hate to be Mister Schadenfreude, but I must say on behalf of photographers everywhere I’m relishing the sheer faceplant misery of what the powers-that-be at the Chicago Sun-Times must now be experiencing thanks to laying off their entire staff of professional photographers and replacing them with writers with smartphones. The recent Stanley Cup covers of the Tribune (the paper in Chicago that still employs professional photojournalists) and the Sun-Times demonstrate the power not only of a good photograph, but the importance of a good photographer. Or, at the very least, an actual photographer. Can you guess which one’s which? I bet you can.
