Google’s Camel-Cam

Google Maps is one of my favorite things about living in our hyper-connected world. The fact that I can sit on my couch and check out a street view picture of an address almost anywhere in the world continually blows my mind. That the locations mapped by Google continues to expand into ever more remote locations is even more mind-boggling. To whit, now Google Street View has mapped the desert. Specifically, the Liwa oasis in Abu Dhabi. Captured via 360-degree cameras mounted, unbelievably, to the back of a camel, these amazing images are a sign of just what a strange new world we’re living in. The pictures of the camel at work are impressive enough, but be sure to check out the street view photos and the behind-the-scenes video of the process via the Google Maps blog.
