I’m a big believer in backlighting as a great way to add interest to photographs. I do this with portraits in all kinds of light, with landscapes, even when I’m making product photographs and or simple candids. Backlighting is a tremendous technique, and I’m pretty happy with some of the results it has helped me to achieve. But my new favorite backlit photo might be this one from NASA. More specifically, it’s from the Cassini spacecraft which was recently orbiting around the back side of Saturn when it made a beautiful backlit picture of Saturn’s rings. Oh, and there we are too: little ol’ earth is a tiny little dot barely visible at the bottom of the frame. It’s a beautiful photograph, worth a look.
