Photo Details
- Title: Buckskin Gulch Near Sunset
- State/Province/Region: Utah
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: Escalante National Monument
- Nearest Town: Page, Arizona
- Description: This photograph is in Buckskin Gulch, in Escalante National Monument, Utah. Unlike the more popular and more colorful slot canyons of Antelope Canyon in Arizona, Escalante's Buckskin Gulch is much longer (30 miles long), and not as colorful...except for about 20 minutes before sunset when the fiery oranges and reds of the sunlight reflects off of the rock at the top of the canyons, illuminating the gulch in an amazing array of colors.
- Notes: I was photographing the spectacular sunset colors of the canyon walls when another hiker paused underneath the large tree, wedged between the canyon walls from the previous flash floods which can frequent the canyon during times of rain. This hiker looks like they're temporarily paused, taking in the enormity and serenity of the canyon!
- Brief Directions: Buckskin Gulch is located near the Paria ranger station, off of highway 89, about 25 miles north of Page, Arizona.
- Best Season: Spring
- Gear: Canon EOS 50D, Velbon Tripod, 17-35mm f2.8 lens.
