Photo Details
- Title: Sanctuary
- State/Province/Region: New Mexico
- Country: United States
- Nearest Town: Sanctuario de Chimayo - in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains about 25 miles north of Santa Fe along Hwy 76 (The High Road to Taos".
- Description: One of the prettiest and most photogenic missions in the southwest, the Sanctuario del Chimayo can also be a nightmare for photographers during the tourist seasons as tour bus after tour bus disgourges hundreds of pilgrims seeking the healing benefits of the church's soil, which many believe is capable of miraculous cures. Arrive very early in the day or outside of the summer season and Holy Week if you want to be able to photograph the mission without dozens of tourists frustrating your efforts.
- Gear: A wide angle lens is very helpful for outdoor photography here, while a tripod or vr lens is essential for the beautiful but dimly lit interior. This photo required a 17-35 f 2.8 lens at 17mm on a Nikon F100 set on a tripod. Fuji Velvia 50/scanned with M
