Photo Details
- Title: Sagebrush And Sliver Of Light
- State/Province/Region: California
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: Eastern Sierra
- Nearest Town: Bishop
- Description: As the first storm of the 2010 fall season grew closer to touching down on the Sierra, the overcast conditions began to look more ominous by dawn. When we drove to our shooting location, the overhead sky seemed to be covered in many layers of clouds as opposed to being a grey amorphous mass. As the first light of day broke through, I was quite stunned to see the light on the mountains. I wasn't sure if someone was trying to turn the mountain tops into gold or were simply trying to set it on fire. Even the clouds hanging over the mountain tops weren't spared. I used the foreground sagebrush, the aspens further beyond and the "wedge" in shadow to lend depth to my photograph. It's mornings such as these that make all the toil worth its while !! I hand blended two exposures made at 2 seconds and 1/2 second.
- Brief Directions: Drive 16 miles on 168 W from Bishop, CA (past the town of Aspendell) and turn into the narrow winding road into North Lake.
- Best Season: Autumn
- Gear: Nikon D3, Nikkor 24-70mm Lens (29mm, ISO 200, F/8, 2 sec)
