Photo Details
- Title: Baked Earth & Sand Dunes
- State/Province/Region: California
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: Death Valley National Park
- Nearest Town: Stovepipe Wells
- Description: An early afternoon start readied us for the long walk in search of the perfect dunes to photograph as the sun got lower in the horizon. While I was photographing the beautiful lines of the dunes earlier in the day, I noticed the baked earth patterns. I thought of returning to photograph as the sun got lower in the horizon. What drew me to this scene was a lone shrub at the top of a dune and the abstract baked earth patterns below it. I used the lines in the foreground to lead the eye to the lone shrub. This photograph was made at Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley National Park, CA
- Brief Directions: Drive 2 miles east on Hwy 190 just past Stovepipe Wells and pull into the Mesquite Dunes parking area.
- Best Season: Winter
- Gear: Nikon D3, Nikkor 70-200mm Lens (122mm, ISO 200, F/18, 1/13 sec)
