- Description: The Imperial sand dunes recreational area is a favorite spot for off-road riders but occasionally the area is invaded by a small group of balloonist. Flying the entire width of the dunes is necessary for retrieval.
- Brief Directions: The area is north of Highway 8 and south of 78 in the south eastern corner of California. Camping is available in the dunes.
- Notes: The area can be extremely windy and holiday weekends are very crowded with off road vehicles. Summer is blisteringly hot.
- Best Season: Winter
- Gear: Long lens
