- Description: One of my favorite escapes is the northern Oregon Coast from Astoria to Newport. This is a photograph of my wife, tibetan terrior "Bugsy" as all three of us were walking on part of the 9 mile long expansive beach. The monolith...Haystack Rock...is the third largest coastal monolith in the world and a protected wildlife and marine sanctuary. At low tide it is possible to explore on foot most of its base.
- Brief Directions: Hiway 101 approximately 25 miles south of the Oregon - Washington Astoria Bridge over the mouth of the Columbia River.
- Best Season: Summer
