Photo Details

  • Title: Snow Jade Cave
  • State/Province/Region (required):
  • Country (required): China
  • Nearest Area: Yangtze River
  • Nearest Town: Fengdu
  • Description: The Snow Jade Cave is a very beautiful cave full of natural rock wonders. It is a very interesting and nice escape after visiting the usual beaten paths of the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Taking photos in a cave is usually very challenging due to the low light. But thanks to the good high ISO performance of the camera and the f/2.8 IS feature of the lens, I am able to capture this fascinating rock formation with the colorful lighting.
  • Brief Directions: The best way to get there is to join a Yangtze River Cruise and arrange this as a side trip.
  • Notes: The city of Fengdu is very warm and humid all year round but the cave is nice and cool inside. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking quite a bit along the narrow paths inside the cave. Take the outside photos before entering the cave. After you come out of the cave, do not open the lens cap unless you want to have heavy condensation on your lens.
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Gear: Canon 30D and EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS
