Photo Details
- Title: Golden-Green Sunlight Over Swiftcurrent Mountains, Glacier National Park
- State/Province/Region (required): Montana
- Country (required): United States
- Nearest Area: Many Glacier Hotel in the Many Glacier area of the park
- Nearest Town: Babb, MT
- Description: This shot was taken along the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake, with the Many Glacier Hotel behind me, on a chilly morning, after the sun had risen from the mountains behind me. I cropped out the water so that the eye would be focused on the striking golden-green of the sunlit line of trees, as well as the bit of sun at the tip of the mountain. I used a polarizing filter on my wide-angle zoom lens for this shot.
- Brief Directions: Take Hwy 89 from Browning and head toward Glacier National Park. At St. Mary, stay on 89 and head toward Babb, passing the yummy Two Sisters Cafe on your right. At the intesection in the highway, where you can either turn right toward Babb or left toward Many Glacier, turn left. Follow the road to the Many Glacier Hotel, park, and carry your camera and gear to the shoreline of Swiftcurrent Lake, on the other side of the historic hotel.
- Notes: In addition to the normal camera gear (tripod, lenses, filters, etc.), make sure you have hiking boots and clothing for both warm and cold weather. Even at high summer, up in the mountains the weather can change in an eyeblink, and can go from a hot sunny day to cold pelting hail from a suddenly-overcast sky.
- Best Season: Summer
- Gear: Camera, tripod, split ND filter, polarizing filter, remote shutter release
