Photo Details
- Title: Garrapata Shores
- State/Province/Region: California
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: Monterey Bay and Big Sur
- Nearest Town: Carmel
- Description: After a day of diving in Carmel, I decided to stay down in the area south of Point Lobos known as Garrapata State Park. I explored a few coves and decided on one I have shot before. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the light show started and continued for a solid 20-30 minutes. I used a 30 second exposure to smooth over the water and draw more attention to the colors and light playing on the foreground rocks and horizon.
- Brief Directions: On Highway 1 heading south, go approximately 4.5 miles south of the Point Lobos State Reserve. There are many pull outs and trails to explore, and this is one of the last ones before the highway goes uphill and around Soberanes Point.
- Notes: There are steep and unstable cliffs in this area, sometimes hazardous surf conditions, and plenty of poison oak, so tread cautiously!

- Best Season: Spring
- Gear: Nikon D300, Nikkor 12-24mm, Lee GND Filters, Gitzo tripod, Markins Ballhead, RRS clamp and L bracket
