Where are you based?
Encinitas, CA

Where was this photo taken?
Looking northwest from Hermit's Rest viewpoint, Grand Canyon National Park.

When did you take the photograph?
August 12, 2013 at 6:50 PM.

What about this place is special for you?
A peaceful evening in the grand landscape waiting for the warm light of sunset.

What equipment did you use?
Nikon D800, Nikkor AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 IF ED zoom, Gitzo Tripod with Really Right Stuff ball head, remote shutter release.

Please describe how you got this photo.
I was attending the Grand Canyon Lightroom Seminar with the Arizona Highways Photo Workshops. Our instructor Suzanne Mathia guided us to Hermit's Rest for the wonderful sunset opportunities on the first evening of the workshop. I then walked down a trail below the canyon rim a ways to find this view and perspective.

Did you use any special techniques?
I used aperture priority, live view for critical focusing and a remote shutter release with mirror-up to minimize camera vibration. This image was processed exclusively in Photoshop Lightroom 5 using techniques that Suzanne Mathia taught in the workshop.
