  • Description: This image is part of a series of environmental self portraits I'm currently working on. As humans, we always want to prove we exist and want our existences remembered. I was here. We write on bathroom stalls, paint graffiti on trains, carve initials into trees and rocks. We build parking lots, wear down new ATV trails, clear-cut forests, dam up rivers. But in reality our existence is so temporary, and nature will outlast us all. This is no tragedy. Our relationship to our natural environment is elemental, yet as a society we have lost contact with the land. In my images, I will prove my existence here on this earth through nondestructive creations of nature’s finest raw materials. I will build small creations that won’t last and stand beside them in acknowledgement. Because eventually we become the earth on which we stood for a while.
