- Description: This is my only piece that is named for the photographer’s relationship to the photo! In a small, drought plagued Peruvian community, we had worked all day, helping dig and establish a water well. Working hand in hand with the locals we had grown warm feelings and warn bodies and shared gratitude for the water coming in. Those we worked with became comfortable, if bashful, with my camera. At the end of the day, as I walked away from the well site, I saw a picture coming toward me. Beast of burden under load, topped by a little Peruvian lady, trotting toward me. Knowing the friendship that so quickly developed with the workers and families surrounding the well, I unconsciously assumed this little woman would “know” me, slow down, greet me, and allow me to take her picture. Wrong . . .on all counts. This woman knew her task and recognized nothing about me. As she jostled by me on the narrow road, I whirled and clicked the shutter – almost in a self-defense reaction. Looking that evening at the photo, I laughed as I realized that I loved both the photo and the experience – and now the memory. So now you know the story of this accidental love. And yes, there is a lady under the hat, and an animal under the load.
