As I left my house the evening I took this shot, the sky was overcast and looked like a gray finish was in store. Even as the sun slipped over the horizon, the sunset seemed like a bust. A few minutes later, the clouds began to burn and I moved down to the water. Just as the colors peaked, an outrigger canoe team paddled into the center of my frame, making this a classic Hawaiian image in my mind.
