Photo Details

  • Title: Night Ice
  • State/Province/Region (required): Alaska
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Town: Juneau
  • Description: During the winter seasons in Juneau large and unruly icebergs stand unmoving, frozen into Mendenhall Lake. Like all frozen lakes it growls and grumbles as the temperature fluctuates. However Mendenhall Lake was created by a melting glacier and the glacier terminus is currently in the lake. When the glacier calves the ice floats around in the lake, taken by the flow of the water and wind. I found the shape of this particular iceberg intriguing. It gave me the impression that if you walked through it another world would be waiting for you on the other side. What better time to find out then during the moonlit darkness of night.
  • Brief Directions: Juneau, AK can only be visited using a boat or plane. The city resides within Alaska's southeast panhandle.
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Gear: Canon 5D MK2 w/24-105mm lens
