Photo Details

  • Title: Rock Sunset
  • Nearest Town: Fredricksburg
  • Description: Enchanted Rock State Natural Area straddles the Gillespie and Llano County line in Central Texas. The park's namesake is a formation called a batholith. I've always said it looks like a 600 foot tall half a basketball sticking out of the earth. It is a giant playground for kids, adults & photographers. I've been to this place many times and never seem to run out of fresh subject matter to shoot.
  • Brief Directions: From the city of Fredricksburg take FM965 north for about 20 miles. The park entrance is on the left.
  • Notes: There are several smaller versions of enchanted rock in the park. One of these is named Freshman Mountain. I made my way out to this spot mid afternoon one spring day and waited for the sun to dip low on the horizon. This was one of the last shots I took that day looking back toward Enchanted Rock
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Gear: Nikon D300-18-70mm Nikon Zoom Lens-Polarizer-Bogen 3036 Tripod-Arca Swiss B1 Ball Head
