At sunrise at Mono Lake we were greeted by alpenglow. The tufa, normally gray in color glowed orange. The color faded within 5 minutes. Awakening well before sunrise and driving and walking to the site was well worth it.
It was worth it to wake several hours before sunrise to be able to be at the edge of the lake opposite these tufa columns as the sun rose.
