Photo Details

  • Title: Refracted Dew Drop
  • State/Province/Region (required): Maryland
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Town: Brandywine
  • Description: This is a four image focus stacked photo of a morning dew drop refracting the image of a small yellow flower. Since it is a refracted image (not a reflection) the sky appears upside down at the bottom of the dew drop.
  • Brief Directions: Wake up nice and early so that you are ready as the sunrises for best light. Position yourself with the sun in front of you to light clearly through the dew drop. Get comfortable, laying down on the ground and take a series of shots that are nearly identical to each other. With such a shallow depth of field each shot will only have part of the dew drop in focus, but when you stack the images a greater portion of the tiny dew drop will become razor sharp.
  • Notes: I also had the Canon EF 25 II attached for a better macro shot. Images stacked in Adobe Photoshop CS5.
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Gear: Canon T1i with Canon EF f/2.8 100mm USM macro
