Description: This is the crater of Haleakala Volcano on Maui, Hawaii. The rich colors come from the minerals and ores brought to the surface by past eruptions.
Brief Directions: From Kahului, proceed east on 32, which becomes 36. Exit on the Haleakala Highway and follow it to the top.
Notes: This is a 2 1/2 hour drive each way, plus stops. It can be windy and cold on the top so dress accordingly.
Best Season: Autumn
