Description: On the eve of Ferragosto in Riomaggiore, the southernmost village in the Cinque Terre, my husband and I walked past the small town plaza, only a few steps from our apartment. The square was usually filled with families sitting on benches watching small children bike, rollerblade and chase each other under the evening sun. We were surprised to see these two couples alone, enjoying a quiet picnic and wine. When we returned from dinner, the couples were still there, but the square was now filled with locals and visitors.
