  • Description: there was a spring festival in the South Philly area and a friend's band was playing. There was this beautiful mosaic artwork on the walls of the city and I was just mesmerized. I had been to that section of the city before and the art had caught my attention. Walking back to the car at the end of the festival we noticed some particularly gorgeous pieces down an alley and followed the path. At the end there was a glass door and the gentleman in the portrait was standing in the sun. He saw our interest in the art and invited us in the artist's home. We were stunned. He gave us a tour and for an hour we talked about art and music and traveling. The artist was working but had given this man permission to let people in if they happened to find their way to his door. The portrait was taken as he told a story. It was a wonderful experience that won't soon be forgotten.
  • Brief Directions: The art and the artist's home are in South Philadelphia around South Street and 11th.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Gear: Nikon D5100
