Photo Details

  • Title: A Gentleman Dining
  • State/Province/Region (required): Florida
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Town: Arcadia
  • Description: Gentleman dining is a portrait done using a light painting technique. This single exposure was done in complete darkness & illuminated with a pen flash light for 100 sec. As I moved around the subject I shined my flashlight upon the sections of the subject matter that I wanted exposed. This technique is very exciting for you never know the outcome. Highlighting the subject in a dark room conveys an intimate feeling and enhances the period effect. This gentlemen is the proprietor of Mary Margret's, a restaurant in Arcadia Florida where he dresses in his top hat and formal attire each day as he greets his customers. The ambiance in the restaurant is Victorian and I tried to convey the formality of that period in this photograph showing his slightly aloof facial expression in the period surroundings. The light painting technique mimics what people must have looked like as they dined by candlelight in that time period.
