- Description: After a devestating hurricane in 1961 and then the yellow fever outbreak that followed the Howler Monkey nearly became extinct. Thanks to conservation efforts at places like the Community Baboon Sanctuary(CBC) the Howler Moneky is thriving although still endangered. Spotting this Howler up close in the jungle of the CBC was the highlight of my one-year in Belize.
