Photo Details

  • Title: Bright Assembly
  • State/Province/Region (required): California
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Area: California Veterans Home (in background)
  • Nearest Town: Yountville
  • Description: This photo was taken on an unusually calm day when the balloons were almost motionless above a summer vineyard, keeping the relatively tight group easy to shoot. The background structures are the California Veterans Home at Yountville, which houses veterans from all wars...including at least one as old as 100 years! The photo was shot in the mid-1980's and the scenery appears almost the same today as it did then. This is due to the fact that Napa County voters approved an "Agricultural Preserve" area which does not allow development on property within that protected area.
  • Brief Directions: This property is just off of Highway 29 on the west side of the highway when you are headed north. As indicated in the photo, it is almost directly east of the Veterans Home, and the photo was shot from the access road that runs parallel to Highway 29, ending at the entrance to the Veterans Home.
  • Notes: At the time this photo was taken, I was shooting a LOT of balloon photos, and because it was still the age of film cameras, we could not immediately see the results of our efforts. However, this photo has been a very popular one...the local newspaper picked it as #1 in a contest they sponsored many years ago!
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Gear: Nikon film camera
