Photo Details

  • Title: Rocks Of Ages
  • State/Province/Region (required): California
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Area: Alabama Hills
  • Nearest Town: Lone Pine
  • Description: While on a day's camera shoot in the Alabama Hills area of California I happened upon this rock formation which interested me. After setting up and taking a few test shots these clouds began to form which I didn't initially like because I wanted the sky to be stark blue to contrast the rock formation. But then, all of the sudden, this jet emerged (appearingly from these clouds) which made me realize that this was the keeper. To me it signifies the world's contrast of time: out of the old springs the new / the past gives "rise" to the future.
  • Brief Directions: Several miles west of Lone Pine, California, on the way to Mt. Whitney Portal.
  • Notes: Hundreds of Hollywood's westerns have been filmed in the Alabama Hills area of California.
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Gear: Canon 20D / Canon 17-40 L
