Photo Details

  • Title: The Swan Maiden
  • State/Province/Region (required): California
  • Country (required): United States
  • Description: The Swan Maidens are girls whose true form is as a swan, but they periodically come down to our world to bath in our waters, thus taking off their swan robes while they do so. (Why they need to come bath in our waters, let alone take off their feathers is never explained; they're FEATHERS, for heaven's sake, it's ok to get them wet.) Invariably some lustful man comes along, spies the lovely ladies in the nude and grabs one of their swan gowns. He forces her to marry him, and since she is powerless to return to her world without her swan gown, she has no choice. Usually she lives in our world for many years and bears this wretched man several children before finally finding her swan gown again. Often, this takes places in front of the eyes of the very children she bore, but she never, ever hesitates. She puts her swan gown on, turns back into a swan and flies away, never to be seen again.
