• Description: Huntsville State Park covers about 2000 acres in Walker County, Texas roughly 60 miles North of Houston. This is a beautiful park with towering pines, rolling hills and a small lake as it's centerpiece. There are also approximately 20 miles of hiking trails.
• Brief Directions: From Houston take Interstate 45 North about 60 miles to Exit 109.
• Notes: Good fall foliage is not the norm in East Texas. There are some spots that are noteworthy, yet this is not one of them. Last fall was an exception. I was amazed to find the park looking more like something one might see in New England during this season. Sweetgum trees are abundant in this area and in the 20 years I've lived in this area I had never seen them put on a show like this.
