Photo Details

  • Title: Boulder Creek
  • State/Province/Region (required): California
  • Country (required): United States
  • Nearest Area: Redding
  • Nearest Town: Whiskeytown
  • Description: Located in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Shasta County California, Boulder Creek falls is worth the 5 mile round trip hike. This is a moderate hike on a well marked path that crosses the stream three times. Although I've only hiked there in summer I believe the fall colors would really bring this area alive. Spring may be a little tricky with the creek crossings. This photograph only shows one small cascade of a much large falls. Caterpillars, butterflies, spiders and dragonflies were among the macro wildlife found along the path. Many birds were seen and even a deer! Don't forget the bug spray as you're always near water and trust me the bugs bite!
  • Brief Directions: Directions:From Hwy 299 (2 miles west of Oak Bottom), turn left on Carr Powerhouse Rd. Drive 1.0 miles and turn left onto dirt South Shore Drive (ok for cars). Drive 2.4 miles to the signed trailhead for Boulder Creek.
  • Notes: This photograph is an HDR composed of 7 individual shots taken at different apertures and blended into one with added saturation.
