British Journalist Wins Arnold Newman Award for Portraiture Jason Larkin wins for his series "Past Perfect"  New York, NY – PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo has announced today that British documentary photographer, Jason Larkin, is the winner of the 2011 Arnold Newman Award for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture. Larkin's winning image series, titled "Past Perfect," examines how the museums of Egypt use different styles of curating to present exhibits depicting the past to contemporary audiences. Larkin’s work was selected from a large pool of entrants who requested consideration for the Newman Prize from their entries to PDN’s Photo Annual competition. Larkin will receive a $15,000 cash award and an exhibit of his winning picture series at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine from July 2 -- November 27, 2011. |
Willard S. Boyle, Father of Digital Eye, Dies at 86 By Douglas Martin/The New York Times  Willard S. Boyle, who won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for helping to develop a device that is at the heart of virtually every camcorder, digital camera and telescope in use, died on Saturday in Truro, Nova Scotia. He was 86. (In the photo, Boyle, left, is with George E. Smith in 1974. Their work on the charge-coupled device won them a Nobel Prize in 2009.) |
Hilary Araujo 1945-2011 In Memoriam  It is with profound sadness that we mark the untimely passing of Hilary Araujo on April 14, 2011 at the age of 65 after a short illness. Mr. Araujo had been Vice President of Marketing for The Tiffen Company of Hauppauge, New York since June of 2004 and was responsible for the company’s overall advertising, marketing, and public relations programs during that time. |
