Build Your Own Web Gallery
A step-by-step guide with screenshots for building your first website
STEP 5f: Adding Graphics To The Table
We're ready to insert our first graphic, the page title we created in Step 3. I want the image in the second cell of the top row, so I select the " " in that cell (line 12) and go to the menu "Insert > Image". In the dialog, I navigate to my site folders, find the file and select it.
Also, in the drop-down option "Relative to" I select "Document". This is important because Dreamweaver is about to start creating the network of file links necessary for the site to work. Keeping the source relative to the document ensures that if you follow the steps in this tutorial, all of your links will work.
Those are all the settings I need to change in this dialog, so I click "Choose". Another dialog box pops up to ask me for Alternate text and Long description. I always skip this step, as I don't like alternate text (the descriptive text that pops up near your mouse when you hover over an object in your browser), and we don't need a Long description. I don't like alternate text because it clutters up the visual experience of the page, and I like to think I've designed a site that's pretty self-explanatory. If you want alternate text for an object, enter it here. If not, leave everything blank and click "OK".
