Description: I shoot a lot of dance performance photos, no flash allowed, so aperture, shutter speed and ISO are all critical. You have to balance noise at high ISO with the need to stop action in a low-light environment. Here, Phillip and Bella perform at a dance competition - it's their first year of ballet partnering, so these are photo memories that the moms want to have!
Notes: Nikon D90, Nikkor 55-200 mm (@105mm), max aperture, set to manual exposure 1/800 sec (to ensure stopping action), requiring ISO 1600. The resulting image had some noise in the black background, but I edited that with PS5 (masking out the dancers, setting black level for the background, which reduced the noise to an acceptable level).
