Photo Details
- Title: Waldo Canyon Wildfire Night View
- State/Province/Region: Colorado
- Country: United States
- Nearest Area: Waldo and Queens Canyons
- Nearest Town: Colorado Springs
- Description: The Waldo Canyon Wildfire was the most destructive in Colorado history. The blaze raged into the city of Colorado Springs on the evening of 26 June 2012 and my wife and I and thousands of others were forced to evacuate the northwest segment of the city. I made this image that night from my vantage point approximately 10 miles from the flames as 346 homes were engulfed and destroyed. Sixty-five mph winds fanned the fire making it spread quickly. Fortunately, our home was spared.
- Notes: F6.3, 1.6 sec, ISO 800, Focal Length 200 (300 equivalent) mm. Even with a sturdy tripod and remote release blurring of the details is evident at the 1.6 sec exposure. These were partially corrected in Adobe Lightroom 4.1 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.1.
- Brief Directions: Colorado Springs is 60 miles south of Denver, CO.
- Best Season: Summer
- Gear: Sony DSLR A-700 Camera, Sony DT 18-200 F3.5-6.3 Zoom Lens, Vello Remote Shutter Release, Ledvon 2540 Q Tripod
