- Description: I keep my camera on my lap as I ride by car or bus, as I work on a series that I call my "drive by shots." Basically, you require a shutter speed faster than the vehicle's speed in order to get a crisp image. A car moves at 88 feet/second at 60 mph, or 44 feet/second at 30 mph. To get a shot like this at 30 mph, that spread across some 11 feet, you have to shoot four times faster than the car's speed...or something greater than shutter speed 1/160 is necessary. When in doubt, crank that shutter speed to 1/500th. Don't deleter until you've seen the image on a big screen!
