One of the islands of the Galapagos Islands is where the leather-back turtles come to lay their eggs. the hatching babies stay underground for 30 days to digest their egg yolk and harden their shells. But even then they get to be eaten by birds and cats. This little turtle was actually dug out by a cat and was not quite ready for his trip yet--his shell was not fully hard so we dug the hole again and placed him back with his siblings. But I was able to take a photo just before we placed him back.
