Still + Video Camcorders
Two cameras in one, digital camcorders can capture still photos alongside your HD video
Among the camcorders that capture high-res images, the Canon VIXIA HV30 is the company's third generation of HDV cassette camcorders that features HD video and still image capture. The unit's CMOS sensor can record images as 2.76-megapixel stills (4:3 aspect ratio) or 2.07 megapixels stills (16:9) to a miniSD card. The camcorder allows you to simultaneously shoot video and press a photo button to take a 2-megapixel still that writes to a miniSD card. The HV30 has advanced manual controls such as an instant autofocusing system, exposure modes from aperture priority to shutter priority, a built-in flash and playback of the HDV cassette.
The Panasonic HDC-SD9 is a high-def camcorder that uses a CCD sensor and records to SD/SDHC memory cards. It can capture digital stills at 2.1 megapixels, or 1920 x 1080. The unit captures video via AVCHD and has two features that will help you shoot better video and stills: face detection to keep all faces in the frame in focus and image stabilization to prevent blurring or shake.
