CANON
Canon uses its ChromaLife100 system for its dye-based inks with an album life of up to hundreds of years. Print life is about 20 to 30 years when displayed. Both Canon and Epson offer multiple “blacks” (black and grays), which can help you get a better black-and-white print. Canon’s Lucia inks are a pigment ink system that includes gray, black and matte black inks and offers a projected life of over 200 years.

CANON PIXMA PRO9000 MARK II
The Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II prints up to 13x19-inch prints with an 8-color ChromaLife100 system. It comes with an Easy-PhotoPrint Pro Software plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Printer size is 26x13.9x7.6 inches. Estimated Street Price: $499.

CANON PIXMA PRO9500 MARK II
The Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II prints up to 13x19 inches with a 10-color Lucia pigment ink setup. It comes with an Easy-PhotoPrint Pro Software plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Printer size is 26x13.9x7.6 inches. Estimated Street Price: $849.

CANON SELPHY ES40
For smaller prints and snapshots, Canon’s Selphy ES40 is a compact photo printer that prints up to 4x6 inches. Insert a memory card directly into the printer and print without a computer; store images in the printer and display them on its 3.5-inch LCD. An optional battery is available for portable use. Printer size is 8.9x8.9x5.4 inches. Estimated Street Price: $149.

EPSON
Epson has been a leader in pigment-based inks with its DURABrite inks, UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 large-format inks and UltraChrome K3 inks that include three levels of “black” (K is for black) and what Epson calls Vivid Magenta inkjet technology. Projected life is over 200 years. Epson offers its Claria dye-based inks with a projected life of over 60 years.

EPSON STYLUS PHOTO R2880
The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 prints up to 13x19 inches using 8-color UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta pigment inks. Epson’s Radiance technology creates smoother color transitions, and the printer features an Advanced Black-and-White Photo Mode. Printer size is 24.3x31.4x16.3 inches. Estimated Street Price: $720.

EPSON STYLUS PHOTO 1400
The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 prints up to 13x19 inches with 6-color Claria High-Definition dye-based inks. The printer offers the ability to print directly on CDs and DVDs. Printer size is 24.2x31.6x16.3 inches. Estimated Street Price: $250.

EPSON PICTUREMATE SHOW
The Epson PictureMate Show is a compact photo printer that prints up to 4x6 inches. Insert a memory card directly into the printer and print without a computer. The PictureMate Show includes a seven-inch LCD that acts as a digital frame with multiple slideshow modes. Printer size is 9x7.5x6.3 inches. Estimated Street Price: $290.
