| “Hybrid” Continuous Lights For Video & Stills |

Litepanels MicroPro Hybrid |
The arrival of HD video capability in DSLRs has greatly expanded the kind of imagery photographers can capture. It has also changed the kind of lighting you need, depending on whether you’re shooting stills or video. Since video is a series of continuous frames, you need a continuous light source. Lightweight, compact LED lights stay cool and can work for both still images and video. They fit into the camera hot-shoe or an extension plate and include dimmers to vary the output.

ikan iLED 150 |
The Litepanels MicroPro Hybrid combines flash capability with continuous light output. In Continuous Mode, the Hybrid provides soft, wraparound lighting for video, while the Flash setting produces a 400% brighter burst for illuminating stills. The MicroPro generates 1.5 hours of continuous output using six AA batteries or five to six hours using Energizer e2 Lithium cells. An integrated dimmer at the top of the housing delivers instant dimming from 100% to zero with minimal color shift. It measures 5.5x3.75x1.5 inches and weighs 10.5 ounces. List Price: $525.

Lowel Blender |
With its built-in battery mount and small size, the ikan iLED 150 outputs 50 lux. The light uses brighter LEDs and has new ventilation slots to keep light cool. It measures 6x3.25x1.37 inches and weighs 13.6 ounces with the battery. The iLED kit comes with three color-correction gel filters, an AC adapter, a battery and charger, camera shoe-mount and a small carrying case. Estimated Street Price: $349.

Flashpoint Shoe Mountable 112 LED Dimmable Video Light |

The lamp head’s compact size makes it small enough for fitting on the camera, holding on a pistol grip or on a compact light stand. Estimated Street Price: $535.
The Flashpoint Shoe Mountable 112 LED Dimmable Video Light has a color temperature of 5500 degrees Kelvin, outputs 3400 lux of brightness and uses five high-capacity AA batteries for two hours of operating time. A barn door is included for directional lighting. Estimated Street Price: $79. |
