STANDOUT FEATURE: Canon's flagship consumer model enhances video performance with the new silent STM kit lens.
1. The T5i's 3-inch 1040K-dot touch-screen LCD monitor tilts and swivels for easy odd-angle and video shooting. 2. The mode dial provides easy access to many camera features, and now rotates 360 degrees. 3. You can record sound via the built-in stereo microphones atop the camera or an optional external mic.

INTRODUCED
3/2013
The EOS Rebel T4i became Canon's flagship entry-level model when it was introduced last summer. The new T5i incorporates all of its predecessor's features, improves on some and offers a new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens with stepping motor for smooth, near-silent AF for video (and still) work.

Like the new EOS Rebel SL1, the T5i features an 18-megapixel Canon CMOS APS-C image sensor, DIGIC 5 processor and a normal ISO range of 100-12,800 (expandable to 25,600). Like the SL1, the T5i has a nine-point AF system, but all nine points are cross-types. In live-view shooting (still and video), you can use Canon's Hybrid CMOS AF system, which uses phase-detection sensors on the CMOS sensor in conjunction with contrast-based AF to improve AF performance for video (Hybrid CMOS AF performance is said to have been improved over the original version of this system introduced in the T4i). The T5i can shoot full-resolution still images at up to 5 fps.

Video capabilities are the same as for the new SL1: 1080 full HD video at 30p and 24p, 720 HD at 60p, plus lower-res options, all with Movie Servo AF. But the T5i has built-in stereo microphones, and the Vari-Angle LCD monitor provides easier odd-angle shooting (the monitor provides touch-AF with both cameras). The T5i also uses a bigger battery, for more shooting between charges.

The effects of seven built-in Creative Filters can now be displayed in real-time during live-view shooting. Multi-Shot Noise Reduction, Hand-Held Night Scene and HDR Backlight Control modes make multiple exposures and combine them in-camera for optimal image quality. An optional GPS unit will automatically geotag images as you shoot with latitude, longitude, altitude and direction the camera was pointed.
