Canon EOS Rebel T2iLIST PRICE: $799 (body only)
Like all APS-C-sensor EOS models (except the old EOS 10D), the T2i can use all EOS lenses, both EF and EF-S. That means you can shoot still images and videos with some 60 lenses, with focal lengths from 10mm to 800mm (equivalent to 16mm to 1280mm on a 35mm SLR, thanks to the APS-C sensor’s 1.6x focal-length factor). That includes 24 with built-in image stabilization, five true macro lenses and four tilt-shift optics. The T2i incorporates the latest versions of a number of proven EOS features, including Auto Lighting Optimizer to enhance shadow detail and add contrast to “flat” scenes, and Highlight Tone Priority, which adds one stop of detail to bright highlights. The T2i also includes noise-reduction solutions for high ISO and long exposures, and Peripheral Illumination Correction to automatically correct lens vignetting. |
STANDOUT FEATURE: The T2i video capabilities really shine, with 1080p full HD video at 30 fps and 24 fps (an improvement on the T1i’s 20 fps), along with 720p HD and standard-definition video at 60 fps for smoother action. There’s a built-in mono mic, but if you want better sound quality, there’s also a stereo jack to use as an accessory mic. You can choose the aperture for video shooting, and use manual focus or AF before or during shooting.
VERDICT: The Rebel T2i is the best entry-level EOS ever and a terrific value for the price.

Canon EOS Rebel T1iFor $100 less, you can get the EOS Rebel T1i, with a 15.1-megapixel sensor, 35-zone metering and full HD video at 20 fps. |
Canon EOS 7D For $800 more, you can get the same 18-megapixel resolution in a more rugged body with a better viewfinder, a pro-level AF system and the ability to shoot at 8 fps. |
