Announced in early September, the Samsung WB750's 12.5-megapixel CMOS sensor offers twice as much light sensitivity and less distortion than other typical CMOS sensors thanks to the Back Side Illuminated (BSI) technology. The 18x zoom can be combined with the 24x Smart-Zoom feature that digitally extends the length of the optics, and it's capable of an impressive 10 fps in high-speed continuous mode. ISO tops off at 3200, and you can take 10-megapixel stills while capturing full 1080p or 720p video at 30 fps. A few other notable features include full manual abilities, a panoramic mode, in-camera High Dynamic Range and Dual Image Stabilization for reducing camera shake. List Price: $279.
Sony Cyber-Shot HX100v
LIST PRICE: $449
With full 1080p HD in 60 fps and a 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX100V includes a Carl Zeiss 30x lens that starts at a wide 27mm and focuses as close as 0.5 inches from the subject. While it's thinner than most other LCD screens on the market, the tiltable 3.0-inch XtraFine LCD screen with TruBlack technology produces deeper blacks and saturated colors on the high-resolution, 921K-dot screen. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor for detecting camera shake, and two Motion Detection modes adjust ISO sensitivity and increase shutter speeds to reduce blur when movement is detected. Backlight Correction HDR puts together a single image with a lot of detail throughout the contrast range by using the best elements from three bracketed images. The HX100V also offers 3D still image capabilities, as well as a 3D Sweep Panorama, and the Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode links together frames automatically. List Price: $449.
