In honor of Father’s Day this Sunday (in case you forgot, you still have a day to find something special for your dad) and as a relatively new father myself, I can really relate to this series of images by photographer Dave Young. Mr. Young was commissioned to hang out in a London hospital for three days in order to photograph the looks of "shock and awe" on the faces of first-time fathers mere moments into their newborn children’s lives. The results are fascinating, and they run the gamut of raw emotions—from sheer joy to abject terror. Those are, by the way, fairly average in terms of the feelings you have as a brand new father—at least according to my own experience. Check out the story at the BabyCenter blog, and then head over to The Book of Everyone web site to see more of the series and order a copy of Mr. Young’s publication, The Book of Fathers. It won’t arrive in time for this Father’s Day, but maybe you can plan ahead for next year.
